How to Keep Your Food on Point Through Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend is coming up, and is a wonderful time of gratefully remembering the many men and women of the military who have sacrificed their lives so that we can enjoy freedom.

You are unique and so is your body! Before starting any new health routine, always be sure to talk with your doctor to make sure it is right for your needs.

As we look ahead to the weekend festivities, many of us have happy thoughts of barbecue foods dancing through our minds. But don’t let the holiday throw you off your health and fitness grind! Here’s how to keep your food on point through Memorial Day Weekend.

Don’t Show Up Hungry

Have a healthy snack before heading out the door to the party. This will help curb your appetite and give your will power a leg up in the battle to resist all the indulgent barbecue goodies.

Portion Control

One of the best ways to avoid going overboard with your barbecue favorites is to let yourself have little tastes. By practicing portion control, you can satisfy your craving for some of your favorite foods without overindulging in them. Satisfying the cravings in a healthy way will help you maintain motivation and self-control over the long haul and will make the holiday weekend a breeze!

Be Creative with Your Exercise

The holiday weekend may be so full of socializing, that fitting in a workout may seem difficult. Or maybe you just want to take the time off from the gym to enjoy time with friends and family. That’s great! Spending quality time with loved ones is important, and so is taking care of your body. So why not mix the two? Suggest a hike before or after a party or bring the football. Set up a small Ironman contest, and if you’re feeling creative, include a couple small prizes to get the participants excited. The options are endless, and so is the fun!

Keep Hydrated

Make sure in the midst of all the celebrating and activities, you are keeping up with your water intake. Consider even carrying a water bottle with you so that you remember to keep up with your H2O. Not only will this help ensure you don’t overindulge, drinking enough water will also help curb cravings and keep you feeling fuller through all the potlucks.

Bring Healthy Dishes

Holiday weekend gatherings are often potlucks, so be sure to bring a dish or too that will provide you with healthy options. That way you aren’t stuck in the difficult position of either eating something unhealthy for you or going hungry.
Following these tips will help ensure you have a great weekend with friends and family, celebrating the sacrifices made by many Americans for our freedom.
